More Details

Our handmade Vine Black watercolour paint is made from charred pulp remains of grape vines, finely ground into pigment. This plant-based black has been used since prehistoric cave paintings and brings a rich, earthy presence to the palette.

Vine Black is granulating, with warm red undertones and subtle cool hints when thinned. Its character emerges beautifully in washes and layered passages, creating texture, depth, and naturalistic shadows.

Part of both our Natural Earth Pigment Range and Historic Colour Range, Vine Black embodies Ferrous & Bone’s dedication to handmade, material-led watercolours. It pairs naturally with Burnt Umber, Graphite Black, Genuine Hematite, and Italian Gold Ochre for nuanced, earthy compositions.
